Looking for manuals/training materials

I recently started a job and we're running DMG Mori NZX 2000/800 machines with the Celos ergoline touchscreen controls. Surprisingly this company doesn't have a solid SOP or training plan in place. So after some googling I didn't find much (other than this site). I'm looking for anything like an operator's manual or anything to give me a deeper understanding.

Mori Seiki SL-25Y for first cnc lathe

Just so happens I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on a late 90s Mori Seiki SL-25SY. Any thoughts on the machine? Would you rather have it over say, a bigger more powerful old 2-axis lathe or something? Control is MSC-516, I would need to drip feed programs to it constantly, I think.

If anyone knows:
-How is the control?
-Is drip feeding a standard option?
-What is the availability of spare parts?
-I've heard the live tools have low RPM like 2k rpm, is that right?
-Is this a good machine for a job shop that sees all kinds of crazy mill-turn/5-axis parts and can only accommodate a small fraction of them?
-Is the minimum RPM being 500 and max 3500 a big deal?

Dmg mori Siemens 840d sl tool changer alarm

I keep getting this alarm when trying to run a shopmill program. It’s alway on the g55 side which is the first part of the program which is being looped continuously. I’ve had the same alarm before from incorrect precalls but just can’t figure out what’s causing it in this case. Tried with precalls and without with subprogram and with gotob back to start.

Usually happens on 3rd tapped hole or before never after. Usually on third hole. Sometimes runs a few cycles without usually alarms every time.

Thanks in advance. Really bugging me all week not being able to figure this out.

Management is looking at purchasing a new DMG Mori CMX 1100 V mill.
There are 5 machines of this brand on the floor now, all relatively new, so
we are familiar with the service side and have been happy so far.

Do any of you guys have any experience with this particular model ?
If so, please let me know what you think.

Tool setup on lathes with Celos and Mapps

Despite talking to 3 different people at DMG they have not been able to explain how to set up the tools so that you get the correct nose radius on turning tools.
I have tried 3 different approaches:

1. Make tool model, then make tool group, then connect the model to the group. The nose radius that I set in the model resets to 0,001mm which the control says is the radius in the tool group. I can find no way to set the nose radius in the group.

2. Make tool group and the make the tool model from within the group. Same as above.

3. Make a tool in "all tools". No way to set nose radius from there.

For now I just use models and have no turning tools set in turret in the control. Tools with no radius, like U-drills work fine.

How do you do this ?

DMG Mori NLX 2500 700 SY spindle brake and chuck problem

Hello,

Need some help on this one as it has become very confusing...

A little background on the machine...So, the machine is practically new as it is situated in a university R&D lab, it has about 300 hours on it, but its 2.5 years old. Its used as a research machine however, we do warm-up cycles on it every other day so it stays in good shape. When we bought the machine, in 2017, the manual of that time (before the celos 4.0 manuals) said the hydraulic and cooling oil needed to be changed every 2000 hours of machine use. The techs did not tell us that "machine use" means as long as the machine back panel switch is ON. Anyway, we didnt change the oil for a long time and some problems started appearing.

The first problem was that the turret was giving an indexing fault. We called the techs, they came in and told us that the weight distribution on the turret wasnt even so it was giving an error. They removed some tools, looked at the selenoids, did some thugging on the turret and it started working. So, they left and the next day the second spindle chuck open/close system locked up and both of the spindle brakes locked-up. I tried to find some answers and realized that in the Celos 4.0 manuals, the maintenance booklet was changed and now it stated that both the oils need to be changed every 2000 hours regardless of the machine being ON or OFF. So, I figured might as well change the oils and the filters, so I did. Thats all fine, however, the spindle brakes are still clamped and the second spindle does not open/close. I checked the selonoid switches, they work but, the selenoid valves themselves do not seem to move even though they are energized.

Now, is this problem caused because of a late oil change, or am I looking at the wrong place and its caused by something completely different? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Heidenhain TNC355, question regarding PLC program

$

I have a Micron WF41 cnc mill with said TNC355 control and would like to have a look at the PLC program to make couple modifications regarding tool changer operation (disable it, and all related error messages with it), and the mill came with a full enclosure which was damaged and discarded, so there are few other door position check and locking routines I would like to edit.

I have experience of using the TNC155 and 355 and doing some troubleshooting, but not with the PLC program itself, and studying the service manual regarding programming the PLC doesn't really get me anywhere - what I wanted to do is to view/edit/export the current PLC program stored in the eprom, but all I see is NOP in every line when doing the following:
Turn on the machine:
- it goes to axis reference screen
- I cannot currently reference the axis because of few error messages related to (supposedly) hydraulics, enclosure door switches and tool changer arm positioning
- I then press the MOD, "up button" to enter code:951026, I can access the input/output/marker etc screens, everything seems fine so far, but when I press the "edit" button (used normally for NC program editing), it goes into PLC edit screen, but as I said all I see is NOP in every line, which makes me think that I'm looking at the memory where PLC might be stored, but it isn't loaded from the EPROM into RAM.

Changing parameter 77 to run the PLC program from RAM yields same results - NOP in every line, a blank PLC program essentially.

I have electric wiring diagrams for this machine, but there seems to be something missing there, I can bypass the door check error messages by bridging inputs in the control cabinet, but the hydraulics message and tool changer arm messages give little clues as to what is the issue, there are 2 hydraulic circuits in the machine, one for tool retention (wired and operational) and the other, completely separate and not connected at the moment, is for tool changer arm operation, so viewing the PLC program might give me some clues as to what the control seems to be complaining about (in French...).

In the end I would be fine with running the PLC program from RAM, since it looks from the manual that is quite easy to export/import it if the need arises, but I'd like to view/edit the original program and not recreate it from scratch.

Any suggestions regarding how to view the PLC program on the control?

Maho 600, Tool changer turns prematurely

Hi,

I got myself a Mahomat 600 a while ago and I'm trying to get it running. For the moment one of the problems is that, when changing tools from the tool magazine, as soon as the gripper grips the tool the machine turns the changing arm(I actually have no tools in the machine for the moment).

I believe that, after the gripper has been closed, the change arm needs to move out to it's lowest position before turning the arm, but that's not the case and the gripper hits the tool magazine a bit, turns 180 degrees and then freezes.

What could cause the change arm to turn prematurely?

NLX lathe:
While milling a series of 6 pocket in a polar array, the machine alarms out with this error: "Compensation interference 0 0".
The roughing passes goes fine but when doing the outside finish pass it alarms out.
8mm endmill. Corners are 4.1mm radius.
As usual the manual is of no use: Correct the program...

MV Junior Z Axis Humming

$

Hi guys!

The Z-Axis on my MV Junior has started to make a humming noise, when it is near zero return or at zero return.

The noise starts suddenly and sometimes disappears from itself.

I made this video to record it:

It clearly comes from the Z servo.

As soon as I move the axis a little bit away from the zero return position, the noise disappears, as shown in the video. In the video I then return to home, and the noise does not re-apear. Only to come back some minutes later.

I really dont know where to check for a problem. Its like the servo is oscillating at this position, but why should it?

The Z-Axis on this machine does also have two other strange issues, but which do no trouble me much, but maybe are connected:

1. Often when I turn the machine on and want to home all axis, I get a z-axis soft limit error, when the axis is homing. Only way arround it is to restart the machine in IPL mode, disable soft limits, home, then restart und home again, and it usually does home without a problem then.
2. I cannot run the z-axis with 100% rapid speed toward the Z+ direction (towards zero return position). When I do this, the axis abruptly stops (after approx 1 second) and the machine throws a alarm (Z AXIS EXCESS ERROR (MOVE)). It only alarms with 100% rapid. If I go with 50% rapid, everything works fine.

When I move the axis by hand (by turning the powered off servo, it moves freely to my opinion. I cannot feel more resitance or a problem near the home position.

Has anyone and idea, what this could be? Or what to check?

As these issues are all related to this axis, there must be something off. But is it mechanical? Or a wrong parameter (i got the machine with a defective masterboard and got it back to life, with all new parameters set from the internet).

Or shall I start messing arround with the speed and positon controller setting potentiometers? :)

Thanks for any advice.

Mori MSX 850-III - Change I/O folder???

Hi there,

I've worked with a lot of these, but usually I set them up to communicate over RS-232. This machine came without a serial port, so we are going off the network.

I could've sworn I've done this before, but I tried everything I could think of. How do I get to the "Folder" field on the list of programs? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried all the softkeys, tried tab, tried arrow keys, etc.

Thanks!Click image for larger version.
