Hello. Yes I have used the search function and have read the good and the bad. But people's Views change over time so thought I would ask.

In comparison with the many machine tool manufacturers around the globe. May I please get people's opinions on where DMG mori stand amongst the elite?

Fanuc MF-M6 Control

Looking at the glass half full, what does this control lack that the newer controls dont? In 1993 I was 7...the better part of me says "walk away son", but 6% of me is curious. On a near tangent- where should one draw the line with fanuc controls? And why?

Mori Seiki SL-15M Turret to live tool holder alignment issue

Good Morning All,

I am Johnathan from South Africa, I recently purchased a SL-15M and have a turret to live tool spindle miss alignment issue. (see attachment) Click image for larger version.

I have removed the turret and re aligned the curvic couplers to the taper pin holes, so that is all ok.

It seems as if it is 1 tooth out. I have tried disengaging the turret manually at the solenoid valve and the turning the turret to line up with the live tool spindle, the problem I then have is that the hydraulics dont return the turret to the locked position.

Control is a Fanuc MF-T4. There is no year model on the machine tag, I am guessing its late 90's from pics I have seen on the net. Its the one that is white and blue.

I am very new to this and any help/assistance would be much appreciated.

Regards
Johnathan Roberts

I have a SH-500 HMC. For some reason I am unable to rotate the rotary B axis in a feed rate, only rapid. I thought it would be a simple G91 G01 F200. B720. but no luck. Im sure Im missing something easy.

Mori Seiki SL-3H X ballscrew removal

Does anyone have a rundown on how to remove the X ballscrew on a Mori SL-3? Specifically, what's the best way to remove the pins that pin it to the cross slide?

This lathe has been crashed hard enough to break all the bolts attaching the ballnut to the cross slide, and I think the screw is bent. I'm surprised someone was able to hit it that hard without leaving more obvious marks. Is it possible to have this happen some other way?

I bought it like this so it's not unexpected but I'd like to get it up and running again.

I'm planning on calling Mori to see if a maintenance manual is available, but does anyone have a PDF copy?

Thanks in advance.

Dmu 50t

Hi All,
It has been a while since I posted anything on this forum. I just got myself a new toy for my home shop, so it had to have a certain size to fit. I came up with a DMU 50T, it doesn't use up a lot of space at all. I know there is at least one member on this forum with one of these machines, maybe he can give me a little help with a small problem I am having. The guys at DMG are scratching their heads over this one and I don't know who the previous owner/operator is. I have been told that the original owner never used the manual B and C axis on this machine, so referencing the X, Y and Z axis are no problem, but how do you reference B and C without moving them? Other than that no issues. Looking forward to making a pile of chips.

'95 SL25Y Y axis high. Need help!

1995 Mori Seiki SL25Y
Does anyone have experience with the turret alignment procedure on this type of turning center?

I've gone through it to the point of pulling out the gearbox but couldn't get it to come out. I wasn't in Y mode. I guess it could've been in a bind.

Do I need to remove all of the live tools from the turret for this to work? What's the easiest way to pull out the gearbox?

Another issue, when I go into Y mode, the turret moves to +1.4xx high as the ZRN position. Does this mean I need a new sensor? I've adjusted the dog and have moved the ZRN down but there's not enough adjustment to get it to true zero when using an indicator in a boring bar tool post.

Service and reliability references DMC 100 U duoblock

We are seriously considering the DMC 100 U duoblock. Our main concern is the service quality and response, machine breakdown / downtime issues, overall reliability of the machine.

Anyone using this machine on a daily basis? How has your experience been with reliability? How has the service response and machine downtime been after a crash? How has parts delivery been?

Anyone using one of these in the Tampa Bay area?

Honest answers only please, no fanboys.

Thanks!

Machine randomly powers off...

Hey everyone. Got another issue with another Mori. This time, it's with our new for 1991 SL-25/1000. Here recently she started randomly powering off during cutting. She will fire up just fine in the morning, and sometimes run fine all day. Other times, she'll run a few passes and wont power back up for a few hours. Usually we attempt to power up, we will get a flicker on the screen, then power off. I'm almost thinking it might be the power supply, but then again, I've heard it may also be an issue with the spindle drive... If it helps, I've attached a video from the cabinet.

Need HELP! Mori ZL-15

I am the proud owner of a Mori Seiki ZL-15 twin turret with tailstock lathe with a Fanuc 11 TT controller. Bought the machine and it was DROPPED in shipping. To make a long story short we finally got the hardware running.......and are profiling barrels but found out that the batteries had died at some point and lost the parameters and compensation tables. Someone appears to have loaded something generic from an 11 series Fanuc controller but we didn't realize none of the twin turret options were missing until too late.

After MULTIPLE service calls form Fanuc $$$$$ and having a friend who does laser alignment rebuild the compensation tables (More$$$$)we went from .020 misalignment on the Z axis to less than .0006 over the full range of z travel and the ability to pinch turn. Called fanuc to get the parameter list the machine shipped with ........and as it is serial number 2.....yes TWO, LOL.....all the documentation for the machine was lost in a fire several years back.

We pretty much have everything squared away to profile 16 inch barrels (DI45ACP AR15 conversion kits for you gun nuts).....but I am trying to access G52 and G53and G54 through 59 to simplify machining shorter barrels of various lengths. I have spent WAY more than I paid for the machine getting it running. Was hoping someone has a similar machine that could help me out with settings.....I think 9126.3 is the parameter for G52, G53, just not sure how to set it.

I hate to scrap it or part it out as it runs smooth as silk, holds tolerance beautifully and is allowing us to profile a barrel in a single setup in near record time. If anyone has any suggestions or a similar machine it would be greatly appreciated if you could contact me.

SV009 following error during rapid (Mori SL-3H/Fanuc 11)

I've got an issue with my Mori Seiki SL-3H; if you turn rapids to 100% and rapid the X-axis, it alarms out with an SV009 excessive following error.

Turning the gain up on the amp doesn't fix the issue, nor does adjusting the gain parameter for that axis. The 18xx parameters for following error are correct per the Mori manual.

This machine was bought with a bent X-screw which has been replaced, but that doesn't rule out some other mechanical issue.

I haven't tried loosening up the gibs - what's the correct procedure for setting the gibs on this machine? Is there a servo load readout somewhere that can be used?

Thanks for any advice.

Old Mori SL-1a programming large part diameter

So I'm extremely new to CNC. One of my subcontractors who usually runs his Swiss is coming to Teach me a little and I'm giving him free machine time (well I'm paying for the education with machine time lol)
Anyway we need to run a 6" OD part.

I have moved my turning tool all the way into the holder and it still won't make the OD size....with the machine at X 0 (absolute? I dunno I'm new remember)
On my machine, X - is away from the OD and X + is towards the center.
Not sure if other lathes are the same.

I know the machine has a little more travel in it because I can manually jog the turret to the point where I want the tool tip...that number happens to be X -.750 on the control readout. I don't get an alarm
When bringing the tool to this point. So going closer to the OD brings that resding to 0, then all the way to spindle center Is X 6.000.

I tried using G50 the way I usually do to set the home coordinates, but when I ran the program to turn the 6" OD, instead of the machine putting the tool tip past 6" on the OD, it tried to go past the machine center point by a decent amount and I got an over travel alarm.

This programming is all new to my subcontractor because of the Swiss thing...he knows G code very well obviously but we are dealing with a 1980's fanuc 11t on my mori vs his very new Swiss.

So...any pointers on how to get the machine to cut a 6" OD part?

I hope this makes sense. If not sorry :p

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has any tips on setting tool heights for ball mills and spot drills on a dmu50. Every time I set them with the laser they are not right. I know I'm doing something wrong, and it's probably something easy. Any help would be much appreciated , thanks.

DMG Mori Seiki Celos Control

We are looking at a DMG Mori that has a "DMG Mori Seiki Celos Control" on it. We are a Fanuc shop. Does this control use standard g code? Does this machine have its own g and m codes or are they like the Fanuc codes? Is the dnc side of the control standard or unique to the control. We are an oem production shop and run the same parts. We don't need any conversational controls.

Thanks

Z Axis Excessive Servo Lag at anything >60% Rapid

$

We've been having this issue in the shop off and on for awhile now, the lathe wont go past 60% rapid, and if you set the rapid to anything >60% the machine will error out, with an error something like "Z: Excessive Server Lag" We've sent the motor to get looked at in the past but it was returned and we were told nothing was wrong with it, as far as I'm aware nothing else has been attempted, is there another area in the machine we should check out that could affect this? We have cooling in the electronics, so overheating should not be the issue.

EDIT: The machine is a 2008 DMG NEF600 Gildemeister

Hello Guys,

It is official Kunzmann/Weiler is coming to the USA NOW!!

We are hoping to give DMG/Mori a run for their money, these days it seems like they have more unhappy customers than happy ones in my travels as the Deckeldoctor.

The Eisler family that owns Weiler now owns Kunzmann! You heard it here first.

The official announcement was listed only a couple of days ago on Weiler.de and the Kunzmann name is now on the weiler site.

The push is starting now, but with the real promotion for Kunzmann will be 2017!

Here> Start Fehler 44 - Seite nicht gefunden

We will be housing machines here in the USA to eliminate lead time.

So now the question which machines would ya'll be interested in getting here asap.

http://kunzmann-fraesmaschinen.de/en/home.htm

Official Kunzmann USA web site will be up soon!

If any one is going to IMTS this year I will be there Wednesday the 14 please come by the Weiler Booth S 9272 I would like to meet you.

There will be no Kunzmann's at this years IMTS but the push is ON!
