Mori spindle face plate removal

$

Ive got an SL-BB/SL-1 spindle cartridge that im trying to remove the face plate on. Reason for this is that a bolt has been snapped off inside the cartridge body that holds the plate on and I cant get at it. Also, when removing the spindle from the machine, I unbolted the face plate thinking it was necessary for removal and as a result some chips got behind it. Ive spent all morning trying to get this thing off and progress has halted. The plate feels like its free, but it wont slide off. There is a small cut out on the inside ring of the face plate that almost looks like its for a 1/4 or 1/2 turn locking lug, but ive spun the plate a full 360 and cant find anything of the sort. What am I missing? Has anyone pulled apart one of these units?

Hello all, just fired up this machine up and after working out a couple small issues I'm stuck on a turret problem. The turret seems to unclamp but won't index at all, not sure what would cause this.

DMG 64v linear, failure to home, X axis error code

Error: C3B0 Motor X does not rotate

Which is funny because the x axis does not rotate...it is a linear motor....

anyway, on the odd chance someone had a linear axis DMG machine and has had a failure, I cannot imagine what it is going to cost when a tech come in here and starts swapping parts out.

Phone support guy says check the motor cable and encoder cable. Schematics are in German...

History:
owned since new 2003

sporadic "axis has moved" errors on startup, since like forever, basically say OK and then enable machine, carefully move it a tad, then restart, "axis has moved" error, but this time with the correct numbers, carry on. Doing that for more than 7 years

Recently gotten worse, more often, then if you do not reboot the machine instantly it emos and throws an error.

I am sure there are few of these around, but its worth a try

back to trying to absorb German wiring diagrams

Does anyone else have a DMG DMC 60H ? Around 1999?

Hello everyone,
I have picked up a used DMG DMC 60 h and am putting the final touches on getting it going. I am not sure if I have all of the DMG manuals that are supposed to be with it. I can't find information on DMG error codes and the dealer is not of any help.
I have:
Siemens 840d manuals
DMG Operation
DMG Parts

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

DMU Evolution 70 misses reference in X-axis.

We bought a used Evo 70. At the first startup it worked well, but after sometime it started to miss the reference in X-axis while startup.

Now it just passes the point and hits the "Hard" stop. When Fanuc misses position at start up, it works holding cancel+p during the startup, does this mahine have any similar? It is Heidenhain control.

THanks.

Hey guys,

I just got a MV 35/40 Machine, excited to get it up and running! I see a Yasnac Post on Mastercam 9. Its in the list of available posts, does anyone know if you can use that straight up, or do you need to tweek it? Would love to hear from anybody on here who has one of these machines and would like to offer any advise on issues or programming or just info in general on this machine, thanks in advance! BTW The Machine has a Yasnac MX1 control

SL-25 from the dead...

$

Hey everyone. Got a slight problem here. About a year ago, we had our vintage 1993 SL-25B/1000 with MF-T6 control completely die on us. After a bunch of misleading, and whatnot, it turned out the machine dumped half the parameters when the batteries died, and had a couple bad data bits (or something like that). At this point, she'll run, and make parts. However, whenever we go to run a program, it takes about 5 seconds for the machine to progress to the next program line every time it hits a speed command. On top of that, when running in memory, the speed will not go above around 800RPM. She'll crank up to 2000+ in MDI,(same program typed into MDI) and handle though. I've already talked to the good people at DMG Mori, and they seem stumped, but will continue to look into the issue. Does anyone here by chance know where I can start looking, or what I can do to correct this? Thanks in advance for any help!

I got a maho 400p without the control unit heidenhain tnc 121 in it. I can get a used one from another mill(not a maho) or is it better to find a used one from a maho 400p so I don't have to program the unit so it's fit to my maho.

Hey Guys,

Been having some slight problems with the SL1 in the Z Axis, had some alarms come up for the Z, pertaining to Encoder or Servo pack. Now Im noticing that the Z axis makes a clicking sound, like something may be binding as it moves, any one had experience with this problem? Would love any guidance as to where to look first if anyone is willing to share, thanks so much!

I have a couple of Maho700S machines , one has been running about a year , the other just got a couple months ago , and do not have it up and running yet . Both machines are short cycling on the hydraulics , I think both machine have a nitrogen gas problem ? I have included 2 photos, showing the nitrogen tanks on the hydraulic system , has anyone on here had any experience filling these ? Or am I going to have to beg DMG for some info , which I may never get. Photos ATT: Thanks for your time . Click image for larger version.

Mori Seiki SL2-B Z Servo 332 alarm (Blown Fuse) Don't know where fuse is.. YASNAC LX1

Afternoon Folks.

Picked up an SL2-B a few months back. Finally hooked it up to the phase converter and got it running last night. I'm pretty green on cnc machines. Just jogging the machine around and being the dummy I am ran into my collet chuck face. Machine alarmed out and is giving me a Alarm 332 Z fuse blown.

Seems pretty obvious what the problem is, but I'm honestly not sure where that fuse it. Dug around in the cabinets and actually have 2 fuse to replace, but neither were what I was expecting for the z axis. All roads point to the servo pack, and although I'm pretty sure I know which set of boards that is I don't seem to have any obvious fuses or breakers on that.

Would anyone mind pointing me in the right direction? Pics would be sweet. In fact now that I say that maybe I should take some pics of what I'm looking at.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone.

So I have a few CNC machines, I'm just a guy who has a home based business, so picture a home garage.

Machines:

1984 Kitamura Mycenter 1 (10k BT35 spindle, box ways, Fanuc 6MB, runs great)
1999 Hitachi Seiki VS50 (14k Cat40 Spindle, HSK linear ways, Seicos (Fanuc)18i, currently restoring)
1984 Tree UP1000 lathe (4k integrated 3J collet/A2-5 spindle, Bosch CNC Alpha 2 control, just restored & runs like new)

I do all manner of CNC repair in my area, control (especially Fanuc), mechanical, and so on. So when a machine shop I do work for made me a deal on a machine I know I can fix, I figured... heck, why not?

Sure, it's a little big. It'll have to be partially dismantled to get it in and I'll likely waste at least a year of my life before it really works as new. But, for all you Maho people out there, wouldn't you like a MC800H trunnion 5 axis pallet changing horizontal with a 12k spindle (through spindle coolant too)? I'm told there are only a few in the world. It looks AWESOME. I can make entire V8 engine blocks in only a couple setups. 120 tools!

Yeah, it weighs over 17 tons. I had a custom modified 10 ton turbine engine gantry crane brought into my shop just to move the parts of this thing while I put it back together. I picked up a little "walkie stacker" just to put the crane together... think: Mini forklift that can lift 2000 lbs over 10' high. I have a couple dollars worth of electrical done... a couple phase perfects, some panels, some cables, some permits...

Some background:

Many years ago I had only my Kitamura CNC. I was young and I didn't even have my own shop yet but I was determined to get into automated machining (I do 3D CAD mechanical design as a profession), since I raced superbikes I felt it would make it cheaper 'cause I could make my own spares (moron). Spend a dollar to save a dime? Heh... it was worth it though, I did learn quite a bit.

So the arrangement I had with the shop I was with fell through and the Kitamura had to be removed from the premises. What to do? Well, I did what any logical person would: I built a custom crane and completely dismantled the machine bringing it's castings through a 2'x3' basement window. Then I put it back together and ran it in the basement. Ship in a bottle. Sometimes I wonder if I wanted to do it just to see if I could. Solo project too, the only help through the entire process was my wife had her cell in hand to call 911 if the castings fell on me (she stood in the next room). They were pretty heavy. I should show a photo to prove it happened...

Anyway, people always joked that if I died it would be a really big problem selling a house with a 3+ ton CNC mill in the basement. I did take it apart, craned it out and now it sings nicely in my shop.

While I'm introducing myself to the forum and the Maho lover's out there, I do have a question about the Philips 532 CNC control - don't worry I'm not going to say I'm retrofitting it and prove to the entire world I'm an ignorant fool who has NO CLUE what that actually entails - I've done complete CNC control retrofits on big CNC's in the past, the Maho would be... well, it has 240 I/O, for a start.

Anyway, my question is about upgrading. I tried contacting Heidenhain and they forwarded me to DMG Mori and I'm pretty sure they just wrote me off as insane. The 532 main board is powered by an old 386 processor. Now that isn't a deal breaker, I have been able to get my Fanuc 6MB to do impressive things, it is amazing how much an old processor can do when it's not taxed by an operating system like Windows. Anyway, the VME architecture of the control was kept right up until the MillPlus VME that had a 486 100Mhz (Sizzling speed). I'm trying to get my hands on the "MIPS" PLC development software so I can upload the PLC program off this existing controller to see how likely I could put it on a newer control, such as the MillPlus VME.

So, what do you guys think? Anyone on this forum even have an MC800H? Would I be the only one? I would feel special like those terminally ill feel when they find out no one else has quite the ailment they do. Still, I dig 5 axis, and although I do have a Hofmann tilt rotary I was going to put on my Hitachi VS50, it would never have the work envelope this machine does: X800 Y600 Z600 A30,-90 B360

This machine has features I've never even run into in person: Baluff RFID tool reader, some CO2 Magnesium machining fire supression setup? (That'll be going, I think some parts of that are already missing), the coolant tank for this is huge. Think a FEW kiddie pools. The through spindle coolant pump sucks more power than either of my smaller machine tool's spindle motors do. The tool belt holds 120 tools and makes me wonder how much money I will spend before I can even claim to have fully filled it up. It's also SK40, I'm hoping someone can tell me an anecdote about how that machine didn't really need the extra pin for the tool changer and it really was an old carry over 'cause it's German and I can just pull the dowels and run Cat40 (Someone please come on and share that story).

Anyway, there will be plenty more to come as I tear this baby down and start bringing her in. I figured at the very least the world will know of these things I did. If I stop posting, I did finally manage to get myself killed. Many people have already lost bets on that one. I'm hoping someone find this machine of interest!

Hey guys, I just acquired a Mori Seiki sl15. What i realize is the geometry for T 1 goes in offset 50 which is fine, but I also want to use Tool 1 with a different offset number, and I can't figure out how to accomplish this task. Any help would be greatly appreciated.:willy_nilly:
